Two new trail options added to spree
Spree for All, the two-month Summit Metro Parks hiking series on flat and easy trails, begins May 1 and continues through June 30. Began in 2004, the annual event now includes 16 trail options that are great for families with young children and those who use wheelchairs, walkers, mobility devices and canes.
New this year, Firefly Trail (Munroe Falls Metro Park) and Miner’s Trail (Silver Creek Metro Park) are eligible for spree credit. Both paved trails opened in September 2023 and offer visitors safe, scenic views of Munroe Falls and Silver Creek lakes.
Since its inception, more than 46,000 participants have completed at least five hikes to earn Spree for All rewards: a neck lanyard and commemorative pin for each first-time hiker, and a commemorative pin for every returning hiker.
To participate in the event, download a hiking form at spreeforall.summitmetroparks.org or pick one up from the following locations:
- F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm Visitors Center (1828 Smith Rd., Akron)
- Liberty Park Nature Center (9999 Liberty Rd., Twinsburg)
- Summit Lake Nature Center (411 Ira Ave, Akron)
- Acme Fresh Market stores (multiple locations)
- Summit Metro Parks Administrative Offices (975 Treaty Line Rd., Akron) Note: Spree forms will not be available at this location until May 20 due to a maintenance closure.
Then, earn rewards – free to Summit County residents – by completing five hikes, which can be on the same spree trail or a combination of different spree trails. Out-of-county residents pay to receive their rewards ($10 for first-year hikers, $5 for returning hikers). For more information, call 330-865-8065.
