Camping
Frontcountry camping is where convenience meets the great outdoors. Whether you prefer a well-equipped campground or a primitive camping location, there’s a spot for you in Summit Metro Parks.
Nimisila Reservoir Campground
Twenty-nine individual sites are available at the campground, located near the eastern banks of the 800-acre reservoir (5550 Christman Rd., Green, OH 44319). Each campsite has a fire ring and picnic table, and 18 sites have electricity. Three are ADA accessible.
The campground offers a dump station, free of charge for registered campers. Those wishing to use the station who are not registered campers may do so for a fee of $10.
Peak season: May 1 through October 31
Off-season: November 1 through December 31 and March 1 through April 30.
Campground closed: January – February
Camp Office Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
RESERVATIONS
Reservations may only be made online and in person at the park district’s Administrative Offices (975 Treaty Line Rd., Akron). Call for office hours and details: 330-867-5511.
The maximum stay is 10 consecutive nights in a 30-day period. Permits will only be issued to individuals 18 and older. The campsites accommodate a tent or tents with combined floor space under 200 square feet, or a camper, RV or truck camper and a tent. There are no showers or drinking water at the campground.
Towpath Trail Primitive Camping
Camping is permitted year-round at two primitive sites along the Towpath Trail:
- Big Bend Trailhead (1337 Merriman Rd., Akron 44313)
- About 1/4 mile south of the Franklin Trailhead (2328 Center Rd.
New Franklin 44216)
Fires are not permitted. Only one-night stays are allowed.
