Board of Park Commissioners
The park district's governing body is the three-person Board of Park Commissioners, appointed by the Summit County Probate Judge. Commissioners serve overlapping three-year terms without compensation and are assisted by the director-secretary, who oversees the work of full-time and part-time employees, seasonal workers and volunteers.
Commissioners meet once a month at the administrative offices in Sand Run Metro Park.

Frances S. Buchholzer
Mrs. Buchholzer has been a Metro Parks commissioner since 1995. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Akron and a master’s degree in geomorphology from the University of Iowa. Mrs. Buchholzer was the first woman to serve as director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (1991-1995), and she was inducted into the Ohio Natural Resources Hall of Fame in 2003. Currently, she also serves on the Ohio Advisory Council for The Trust for Public Land.
Carol M. Curtis
Mrs. Curtis has been a Metro Parks commissioner since 2003. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron and has worked in a variety of professional roles, including fiscal officer, consultant, realtor, vice president, chief financial officer and administrative assistant. Mrs. Curtis is an honorary lifetime board member of the Friends of Hower House, a National Historic Landmark in Akron.
Rainy G. Stitzlein
Mrs. Stitzlein has been a Metro Parks commissioner since 1994. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Akron and has served on boards for many organizations, including the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Mrs. Stitzlein served a nine-year term on the Board of Trustees for The University of Akron and has been a member of The American Cancer Society, serving as president and chairman of the board. She was also a commissioner of the Ohio State Racing Commission for 10 years. In 1978, Mrs. Stitzlein was named an honorary lifetime member of the Professional Bowlers Association for her work as business secretary during the group’s formative years. She was named to the PBA Hall of Fame in 1980.
