Antifreeze
The wood frog uses glucose in its blood as a sort of antifreeze, protecting vital organs from damage while the rest of the body freezes solid.

Fall Foliage
Leaves do not turn color in the fall. They simply stop producing green pigment (chlorophyll), allowing the reds, oranges and yellows to become visible.
