The Nature Realm was named in honor of Frank A. Seiberling, founder of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. He owned the property from 1920 until 1948.

The Indian Signal Tree, an unusually formed Bur oak in Cascade Valley Metro Park, was reportedly shaped by Native Americans to serve as a marker on the old Portage Trail between the Cuyahoga and Tuscarawas rivers.
